Pack your bags and prepare for a transformative journey through Germany, where history and heritage come alive. Your adventure begins as you board your flight from the U.S. to Frankfurt (FRA).
After arriving in Frankfurt, we will start our day with a walking tour in the Frankfurt city center. During the tour, we’ll get our first taste of German food with a delicious lunch. After our time in Frankfurt, we will head by private coach to Mainz, a charming city along the Rhine River. We will check in to our hotel and then gather for a welcome dinner. Overnight accommodations are in Mainz at Leonardo Hotel Mainz (B, D).
We start our day with a walking tour of this amazing city, founded by the Romans. Then we’ll delve into Mainz’s significant contributions to the printing world with a visit to the Gutenberg Museum. This museum will take you back in time to explore the printing press’s revolutionary impact on society. Overnight accommodations are in Mainz at Leonardo Hotel Mainz (B).
Today, we'll venture through Germany’s heartland with a scenic drive to Eisenach and Erfurt, key locations in Martin Luther’s life. Explore Luther’s childhood home in Eisenach and the stunning Wartburg Castle, where he famously translated the Bible. Visit Erfurt, where Luther studied at the university, and finish the day with a pilgrimage to Eisleben, the place of his birth and death. Overnight accommodations are in Erfurt at the Mercure Hotel Erfurt Altsadt (B, D).
After breakfast at our hotel, we’ll travel to Leipzig. Here we’ll visit St. Nicholas Church, a focal point of the peaceful demonstrations that led to the fall of the Berlin Wall. Learn about the role of the Candlelight Revolution in shaping modern Europe. In the afternoon, we’ll journey to Wittenberg, where Luther sparked the Protestant Reformation. Overnight accommodations are in Wittenberg at the Best Western Soibelmanns Lutherstadt Wittenberg (B, D).
In the morning, we’ll enjoy a fascinating city tour, learning about Martin Luther’s life in Wittenberg and the role this town played in the Reformation. In the afternoon, you can choose between a visit to the Lutherhaus Museum* to gain deeper insight into his life and work or you can explore the picturesque old city on your own. Overnight accommodations are in Wittenberg at the Best Western Soibelmanns Lutherstadt Wittenberg (B).
*Lutherhaus Museum is currently closed for renovation and scheduled to reopen Spring 2027.
Our travel, today, takes us to Germany’s vibrant capital city of Berlin. We’ll embark on a sweeping tour through history, exploring: Charlottenburg Castle, the modern Reichstag Building, the iconic Brandenburg Gate, and remnants of the Berlin Wall. Later in the day, we stroll the Kurfürstendamm, the Gendarmenmarkt, and admire the Berlin Cathedral. All throughout our day, we’ll enjoy the energy of this dynamic city that blends past and present. Overnight accommodations are in Berlin at the Hollywood Media Hotel (B).
After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll spend time in Potsdam, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here we’ll explore the magnificent Sanssouci Palace, a former royal residence. With its beautiful gardens and stunning architecture, it is certainly a must see site while visiting Germany. We’ll then return to Berlin for dinner together. Overnight accommodations are in Berlin at the Hollywood Media Hotel (B, D).
Today, enjoy a relaxing morning to explore Berlin at your own pace. In the afternoon, we’ll then indulge in the city’s culinary scene on a guided food tour, sampling traditional German delicacies. Overnight accommodations are in Berlin at the Hollywood Media Hotel (B, Food Tour).
After a farewell breakfast together, we’ll travel to Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) for our flights back to the U.S. (B).

Veronica Smith is the Pastor of Haven Lutheran Church, where she loves helping people grow in their faith by meeting them where they are—with a balance of creative worship leadership, a solid sense of humor, and a genuine love of learning She speaks several languages (although funny enough, German isn’t one of them) and loves traveling, learning from different cultures, and connecting with people wherever she goes. If it’s been too long between trips, her passport starts to feel personally offended— and she’s usually happy to do something about that.
Sarah Raymond (Sunlight Tours Trip Director) is passionate about travel and the way it opens us up to the world. Learning the stories of other people and places broadens our own perspective and understanding. Sarah has been leading trips for almost 20 years, but in 2019, she made the leap and started her own tour company.
